When I first started working with rural women and farmers, I was struck by the beauty and authenticity of what they made pure honey, heirloom turmeric, nutritious ladoos. But what broke my heart was seeing these incredible products packed in reused plastic bags, sold in local markets for far less than they were worth. That is when I realised a good packaging is not vanity, it is dignity.
At Divavi–Gaon Ka Bazaar our in-house team help design simple, ecofriendly packaging zipper pouches that tells a story, jars that preserve purity, labels that carry pride. I still remember the moment, when we handed over the first batch of printed packaging to a SHG in Jharkhand and FPO in Odisha. It had their products like ragi ladoos, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, millet namkeen, jaggery powder, ragi flour and kala jeera rice but, this time in a professionally designed pouch with their name, ingredients, logo, and a beautiful photo of the product they made with so much love. One of the women held it gently and said, “Yeh toh bilkul bazaar jaisa lagta hai.” That was the moment I knew we were doing something meaningful.
We believe packaging is part of storytelling. It is a promise of transparency, traceability, and tradition right at your doorstep. We have seen how a jar of tribal honey or a pouch of GI-tagged turmeric transforms in value, when it is sealed with pride and presented with purpose. For many of these rural entrepreneurs, it is the first time they have seen their work look “market-ready.” And that spark in their eyes when they see the image, the label, the story, it reminds me why we started Divavi in the first place.
