It began with a saree. Not one I bought, but one I inherited soft cotton, deep red borders, and the unmistakable rhythm of a handloom. As I travelled across Odisha, I met the women behind such weaves the quiet strength of the Bomkai weaver, the precision of the Sambalpuri ikat artist, the earthy grace of the Kotpad dyer. Every handloom saree is a story woven with silence, skill, and centuries of tradition. Each fabric speaks of heritage, identity, and craftsmanship passed down through generations. I saw these traditions fading, overshadowed by fast fashion and industrial textiles. That is when I knew I had to act.
Subhadra is my personal initiative to support and promote the timeless elegance of Odisha’s handloom sarees. It is named for strength, rooted in heritage, and powered by purpose. Through Subhadra, we work directly with weavers especially women helping them preserve heirloom techniques like ikat, natural dyeing, and traditional motifs. We focus on fair wages, market access, and storytelling connecting rural artisans to urban buyers who value authenticity.
Every saree we offer carries a thread of tradition, dyed in dignity and woven with care. It tells the story of a farmer growing cotton, a woman dyeing threads under the sun, a loom humming in rhythm with tradition. When you wear one, you do not just wear beauty you carry a legacy, hope, and dignity.
I am Debika. I am Subhadra. And through every thread, I carry forward the voice of the women who weave not just fabric, but identity.
